Have we lost respect for God?

When I read the Old Testament I am struck by the fierceness of God’s wrath.  I find that when I am reading in the New Testament about His grace, I sense so much of His love and patience with me.

The thought occurred to me: “Have we lost our respect for the wrath of God against sin?”  During the Israelites wanderings in the desert, we see that God did not put up with any foolishness at all.  He nipped it in the bud and cut off all sin along with the sinners.  He wiped out whole towns and peoples that were engaged in sinful practices.

I look at America and think to myself:  “How does God put up with the blatant and open sinfulness of America’s people?”  It is only then that I realize that God’s grace is flowing with patience right now so that sinners will have the opportunity to repent and be saved.  If this were during Moses’s time on the earth, our nation would be wiped out by an Almighty God that does not tolerate blatant and open sinfulness.

Thank God for His grace and love.

Romans 5:8,9 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
