Do You Really Know What The Bible Is About? An Elementary Look.

That is a question many people cannot answer clearly.  I have found in my years of ministry that people have their own home-spun ideas about God and the Bible, and most of them are not founded upon truth.  I think, sometimes, it is an excuse not to read or follow the teachings of Scripture.  Other times, it is just that some have never taken the time to find what it is about.

I wrote this because I believe we have a generation of kids growing up that have no idea of what it says.  Their parents were more interested in earning the almighty dollar and being popular that they raised their children up in a secular atmosphere.  That left many of the younger generation vulnerable to a humanistic worldview.

Let me try to give you a very simple overview of what the Bible is all about.  I think it is worth a read for you, especially if you have not been taught the way of God.

Permit me to make a feeble attempt to try to make this complex book simple.  This is not an all-inclusive study, but a simple overview of the general story found in the pages of Scripture.

The Bible is about Jesus.  It is about Jesus from the front to the back, from Genesis to Revelation.  You may not notice it at first, but that is where valuable teachers come in.  It is not a book about God the Father.  It is not a book about God the Holy Spirit.  It is about God the Son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible is about God creating man so that He could have fellowship with Him and man turned his back upon God and disobeyed Him.  That caused a serious problem between God and His newly created people.  The term used for this serious breach of trust was called “sin.”  It is not a word that any of us like because it reveals a rebellious heart that came because of man’s disobedience to God’s will.  Now what would God do?  Man now owed a debt to God that man did not have the ability to pay.

He ask His Son, the Lord Jesus, to leave His throne and go down to the earth and sacrifice Himself to pay the penalty for man’s unbelief.  Jesus willingly did just that.  Since God in the three persons is a spirit being, Jesus had to take on human flesh, experience the trials and temptations of man, and then be offered up as a sacrifice to God the Father to atone for man’s unbelief and sinfulness so that man could be saved from punishment.

Now, mankind has only to look to the Son of God, believe Him, turn away from their sinful lifestyle and commit their selves to Him.  What happens then is a spiritual awakening within the believers heart.  The mind is released from its veil of darkness as a new creation is formed within the person, a new spiritual nature.  Old ideas and suppositions begin to pass away and all things become new.  Peace and joy invade the heart and mind as one begins a new relationship with God that will last forever.

There you have it in a very condensed version.  However, there is so much more for you to know about God the Son.  You need Him in your life!  He loves you and wants to provide for you.  Will you just trust Him today?

Here is a simple way for you to have this new life:

  1. Realize that you have sinned against God and need forgiveness. Rom 3:23 HCSB For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

2.  Ask God to forgive you for your unbelief and sinfulness toward Him.

Rom 10:9-10 NKJV (9)  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.(10)  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  1. Tell someone what you have done. Don’t expect them to understand it, but God wants us to be public about our commitment to Him.  Jesus said in Matthew 10:32 HCSB   “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven.
  2. Go to a church that truly believes the Bible and be baptized in water as a public confession of your faith in Jesus Christ.

Lastly, write to me and tell me what you have done and I will help you find your way with God.
