A small picky point that has larger theological implications!

You might hear people say, “His love was greater than my sin.” There is a beautiful song out that states that and we hear it echoed in many other contemporary songs. Okay. Here is my problem with that statement and I know I’m parsing it finely, but that is how I think. It was the blood that was greater than my sin. It was God’s love that sent Jesus to this earth to shed His blood so that we could be cleansed from our sinfulness. It is not His love that cleansed us. It was His blood. It is a very important point for us to keep in mind because in this age of secularism, everyone talks about love this and love that. The world misuses love to satisfy their own secular tastes but they do not acknowledge the love of Christ nor do they acknowledge the blood.
Some hymn books have taken out songs that have “blood” in them. Liberals have accused us for years of having a bloody religion. Satan hates the blood of Christ. Many modern songs leave out the blood in their songs. They usually only mention love and everybody swoons and lifts their hands with great feeling. We have an evangelical society that only talks about love. Whether we like it or not, blood had to be shed for you to be saved and it was Jesus Who gave it all for you as He died a terribly violent execution on a cross.
Sometimes I wonder how many of these mega churches would be as large and rich as they are if they talked about the blood more often. How many would stay on TV and keep their audience.  The blood is the most important and only component that cleanses you from your sin. From Genesis to Revelation we see that scarlet thread of redemptive blood through types and ceremonies pointing to Jesus Who shed His own blood to redeem us and it is a permanent cleansing, thank God.
Let us sing and write more songs about the blood, that precious blood that ran down the cross that day from the body of our Lord Jesus Christ that enabled us to be reconciled to God for ever.  Yes, God loved us and we are to love one another.  He loved us so much He sent His only Son to pay our penalty through His blood.

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins.  And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.  The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in His day; And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away.  Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.  E’er since by faith I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme And shall be till I die.  By William Cowper, 1731-1800.
