Psychology has entered every sphere of our lives in America and around the world. It is in the schools, society, and churches. Where did this come from? Freud who pioneered psychology, was a Jew from what we now call the Czech Republic. He was a strong atheist who hated religion. He used cocaine most of his life and was extremely afraid of death. He believed that most behaviors came from sexual appetites that causes us to do certain things and choose certain paths in life.
He was not an occultist, but his friend Carl Jung that was a close associate of Freudian psychology was interested in the occult. He and Freud attended seances and did some conferences together.
Psychology hasn’t changed much from its beginning although most psychologists today say they reject much of what Freud believed. Secular psychology is simply composed of men acting like they are scientists seeking to explain behaviors. There is no real science behind it. It’s a fraud.
In many peoples minds, secular psychology has taken the place of Scriptural definitions as to why people do what they do. I believe it is Satan’s substitute for explaining man’s behavior by steering us away from God’s Word. Psychology claims to deal with the psyche. Psyche in the Greek is the word for your soul. Only God can deal with the soul of man. It is His territory. The spiritual is God’s territory. It is not fo some guru or priest to deal with your spiritual side. That is how you can get into trouble spiritually. Psychology is a rival religion to Christianity. It is all about man. Only God can help a person spiritually.
Notice the clear words of Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16 says: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
The Bible is the best book describing the mind and man’s reasons for doing the things he does. To substitute godless reasoning from atheistic meanderings concerning your mind and heart is a violation of Scripture.
Dr. Carl Menninger wrote a book on “Whatever Became of sin?” that was published in 1974. I read the book many years ago and found it quite interesting that he would take up a subject like that since psychology does not like the word “sin”. Secular psychologists simply make things up as they go and try to make you think that what they are telling you is profound and scientific.s. It’s a scam.
People have flocked to them because it seems everyone wants to know what they are like and why they do things a certain way. We are all so eager for people to tell us things about ourselves. Again, these subjective thoughts are based in our own insecurities. How many times have you filled out those things on Facebook that tell you what you are really like. Answer a few questions and it will give you an answer describing what you are like. People are curious about how they are perceived so they follow and believe (somewhat) those things about themselves. Most of them make us feel good about ourselves. It is similar to the depth of truth contained in Chinese fortune cookies. These things are not based in reality but people kinda sorta want to believe them.
What many people dislike is what the Bible says about them. The Bible says that we are sinners and that no one is good in and of himself. It says that we are not inherently good which opposes all the other religions in the world, including Jehovahs Witnesses, Mormonism, Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, Seventh Day Adventists, Islam, and every other religion that is based upon works.
The Bible tells us that we need to be cleansed from our sinfulness and to repent, to change our ways to be conformed to God’s holiness. It tells us that we can do nothing in and of ourselves to be made right with God except to trust and exhibit faith in His Son and His death on the cross. Nothing. We can do nothing except to fall upon our face before God and accept His forgiveness by believing His Son took our penalty in His body and died in our place. No religion, no good works from us can make us right with God but to humbly come to the cross and accept God’s way of salvation, through His Son. Quit believing the lies of Satan who seeks your demise and destruction.
Secular psychology has taught people to be weak and accepting of their behavior because of their animal instincts. Secular psychology has tried to lessen the burdens that weigh heavy upon the heart, but it has no power to do so.
So has secular psychology changed much since Freud? Not really. Men have added to it and tried to explain why people do the things they do. But, it is still all a guessing game perpetrated by people who try to sound intellectual. Secular psychologists cannot agree on what they believe. It’s not cut in stone.
So, to answer the question “Is there such a thing as Christian psychology?” There is no such thing. There is secular psychology and there is the Bible and the two do not meet. It is a misnomer to call it “Christian psychology” because they are at two opposite ends of the universe. One is based in humanism and one is based in God’s eternal Word NO MATTER WHAT LABEL MAN HAS PUT UPON IT!
2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves. 2:2 Many will follow their unrestrained ways, and the way of truth will be blasphemed because of them.
Only believe what God has said in His Word. The devil does not want you to read it or believe it. He would rather you go to some made up false religion and trust that. The consequences of that are permanently catastrophic and there is no remedy for that.
Please don’t think that I’m being harsh because I know a lot of Christian brothers have bought into the lies of psychology. I love them but they have allowed the tempter to deceive them. I hope to send a warning shot across the bow to my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. May God help us all.
