In the last part of Jeremiah 7 we read how Israel has forsaken God and in verse 28 God tells Jeremiah this:

“Say to them, ‘This is the nation whose people will not obey the Lord their God and who refuse to be taught. Truth has vanished from among them; it is no longer heard on their lips.”

God was giving a warning to them:

“From the day your ancestors left Egypt until now, I have continued to send my servants, the prophets—day in and day out. But my people have not listened to me or even tried to hear. They have been stubborn and sinful—even worse than their ancestors.”

So for hundreds of years God had been blessing them and protecting them and yet they would not listen to Him and did not even try to hear when He warned them. Now, destruction was prophesied.

When I read that this morning, I couldn’t help but think of our beautiful nation of America. Land of freedom and prosperity. As you know, America has deep roots in Scripture, from leaving England by fleeing to basically a rugged land that was not developed yet. Scripture was the basis for the laws of the Land. Scripture was used in schools to teach children to read and learn. God’s Word was the basis for this great land.

And God blessed America. She became prosperous and powerful, reaching a standing on the world’s stage as the greatest country that ever existed. The world looked to America for innovation and invention. People from around the world left all behind and came to America to be part of her rich blessings from God. It has truly been a nation that God blessed above all other nations on the earth and it has been a very remarkable achievement for such a young country. All of it came about because of God’s hand of blessing.

However, Americans began to turn their back on God and reject His leading in our nation. He has tried again and again to get the attention of its people, but to no avail. Like Israel in days of old, America does not want God to govern their lives or their nation. Instead, they want to wallow in their sinfulness and greed, believing that they prospered on their own without His help. Much of our population hates God and does not want Him leading us. They have chosen to ignore Him and have not even tried to hear when He speaks. They do not care what He says.

America still refuses to listen to God and is on a fast train headed for Hell. What has been achieved in our society and culture today? Nothing but chaos and trouble. Our nation is torn apart by hatred and greed. Neighbor against neighbor, sons against fathers, families being torn apart by refusing to live by God’s principles. People against leaders and leaders who refuse to obey the laws of the land. Yes, our country’s rejection of God is dragging us down rapidly and knowing from history how God tolerates this kind of stubbornness, America is in for some rough days of calamity and sorrow.

If only Israel would have turned back to God and given Him credit for their prosperity and freedom, they would have continued to be blessed. Instead, they were overpowered by their enemies as God allowed treacherous nations to steal their wealth and enslave their people.

Is this happening in our country today? Well, you draw your own conclusions. Read and listen to the news. It is full of hatefulness and rebellion. Can we ever be whole again? Can our nation ever be restored to peace? If only America or shall I put it in plainer terms, if only we would repent and turn from our wicked ways, then we would hear from Heaven and our land could be healed.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord and honor Him as long as we have breath in our earthly bodies. We choose to obey God rather than man! To God be the glory!
