Our Spiritual Leaders Seem Silent!

We live in the last of the Last Days before Jesus Christ our Lord comes back to this earth to take His church home to be with Him. It is an exciting event. I’ve never talked to a Christian that was not looking forward to this event. I’m sure there must be some that are not aware of it or have not heard of it, but most of the people I talk to are seasoned believers and they know about it.

They may not understand the end times which we call in theological terms’ “eschatology” but in years past, they had heard of the event that Jesus was coming back to get us. Growing up, I did not know anything about end time events, but I had heard that Jesus was coming back to take us with Him. It was not until I went to college and studied the Bible that I learned about the Rapture, Tribulation Period and the Second Coming.

Today, I have not heard a message on Jesus coming back for many, many years. I did hear one preacher mention it in a message a couple of months ago and I went up to him and thanked him. I was elated that he spoke briefly about Jesus coming again. The pulpit seems to be silent on this important subject.

Should we not preach the imminent return of Jesus often? That He could come at any moment? I know the preachers believe it, but they never preach on it. Should we not warn sinners that Jesus is coming and that they should make things right with their Maker before it is too late?

I was reading Isaiah 56 this morning and I was struck by what Isaiah was saying.
Isa 56:10 For the leaders of my people—the LORD’s watchmen, his shepherds—are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.
(11) Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain.

Now, I would not hang all that on my brothers, but it got me to thinking. The Lord’s watchmen are seemingly silent on this issue. The leaders talk about all kinds of things, but it seems to me that many of these leaders are not warning people of the dangers that lie ahead if people do not make things right with God before He comes.

God help us warn people as well as encourage them.
