A New Perspective for the Coming Year!

The years seem to go more swiftly as one gets older. Days come and days go and soon we are at the end of another year more quickly than we imagined it would be. So my question is, “How did your year go?”

Well, whether it was good or bad, it is over and we are at the dawn of another year. I don’t make New Years resolutions because I rarely keep them, as most seem to do. However, I always look down the rode a few months and evaluate what I can do better in the coming year.

I always seek to read God’s Word every day. Sometimes, I get to bedtime and realize I got too busy that day and forgot to read it so I then take the time before I close my eyes to read it. I try to never let a day go by without reading the Bible because I know it is the nourishment I need for each day.

I also try to read through the Bible in a year. It is easy if you use the YouVersion app. This coming year, beginning tomorrow, I am going to use the Chronological Bible because it takes you through the Bible chronologically, meaning as things transpire, rather than back and forth historically. I am looking forward to beginning that because I’ve never done that before.

Each time I read these books that are inspired by God Himself, I find something new. Sometimes I speed read over the “who begat who” and many of the genealogies. Most of the names I cannot pronounce, so when I read them, I find myself trying to pronounce them each which takes me a long time. Sometimes I laugh while I’m trying to pronounce them.

As far as the version I use for daily reading, I choose the NLT (New Living Translation) because it is easy to get the sense out of things, especially the stories in the Old Testament. I grew up on the King James and I love it, but I have trouble making sense out of some of the Old Testament stories when I use it.

You can begin at any time of the year. It doesn’t matter. Just begin. All of the Bible reading plans in the YouVersion continue for a year no matter when you start.

So, at the close of another year, I pray God’s richest blessings upon you and that this year will lead you into a closer relationship with the One Who created you. Remember always that God has your best interests at heart and will never let you down. He loves you and desires to care for you. You just need to take the initiative and read His inspired book that was written for your benefit. To know Him better, you must read what He has said. To sense His fullness in your life, you must take time to know Him.

God bless,

Ken Lewis Th.D.
